Paddling 0.5: Dry Land Basics

Have you always wanted to learn how to kayak but didn’t know where to start? The experts at Alpine Shop and The Pathfinder are here to help without getting even your toes wet! 

Kayaks continue to explode in popularity throughout the Midwest and for good reason: they’re great fun and good exercise! But without knowing the basics, it can be a pretty intimidating activity to jump in to without any help. An Alpine Shop Instructor will help take care of that at this dry-land clinic.

Paddling 0.5: Dry land Basics –  This is an introductory course for paddling with a kayak. Class topics includes:

  • Vocabulary – Learn all of the parts of a kayak, what they do and the equipment you’ll use
  • Key Ingredients – Tools and accessories you should have with you when you paddle
  • Learn the different styles of kayak and how they relate to the type of water you will paddle in
  • Local kayak groups that will help get you paddling

Location: This class is held in our Kirkwood and Columbia, Mo., locations and at The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kan.

Dates: To see when the class is offered, search either by the “Schedule” box below, or by scrolling through the calendar for available dates.

Time: 6–8pm

Cost: $10 per person.

Registration: All registration is handled on-line. Once you find the date you would like to attend, click on the date to access the registration system. First, select which location you would like to attend, then select, the class. If you would like to register more than one person for the class after you are finished completing your own information, click “Add Participant” and enter the information for as many participants as you are registering.

Please note: All programs have a minimum and maximum number of participants. If a minimum number is not met, you may be contacted to possibly reschedule your class. If a maximum is met, a waitlist may start for those still interested in attending.
